She's Baaack!

Today at 12.30 pm I attended the Nutritional luncheon held at the community room hosted by the Hamilton Aboriginal Health Centre.  It was fun hanging out with my fellow tenants Delores, Marie, Deano, Debbie, Janis, Linda and others.  I ate a light snack and played one game of bingo then I left early because I had to meet a friend from outside the building.  When I got back home I decided to see if there was any coffee left over from the luncheon.  I grabbed my coffee cup and when I walked in the community room Lo & behold! Guess who came out of hiding and sitting at the table stuffing her face…Yep you guessed right…. it was Ingrid Nosel.  I completely ignored her and walked straight to the coffee machine and helped myself.  As I was leaving I noticed she was staring at me giving dirty looks.  And you know what!  She can make all the ugly faces she wants because it’s not going to provoke a reaction from me. She tried that before at the last Christmas gathering yet she ran to the cops whining she's afraid of me.  Childish behavior is so unattractive especially from a woman her age.
On other news I had a chat with a fellow tenant and it looks like there may not be a Tenant/Swiss Chalet luncheon as planned by the tenant committee.  There is opposition from the HSC. Since I’m not a tenant committee member I’m not getting involved but I know some tenants are disappointed that it may be cancelled.
After the luncheon I read the UNH's newsletter, I'd describe the newsletter as something you read while on the "throne", it has the usual self praising "We do a good job and Natives can't wait to move in so we can evict them later" :P   Meanwhile they have to remind applicants to call the office for updates. :D
To complete their 40 hour Community service student credit UNH's wants Hamilton students to sign up with them...talk about slave labour. :)
It's a shame Valerie Williams has taken a leave of absence..I got good vibes from her.

Ho Hum!

Good news! After a hard fought battle the Tenant committee Swiss Chalet luncheon will go ahead as planned. Thumbs up! To the members of the Tenant Committee. Boo to the opposition. :(

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP

Koo Gaa Da Win Manitou

I hope one day we can truly say there is a haven where older natives who experienced homelessness can find a place to call home and have the resources available for the best quality of life in their golden years. Koo Ga Da Win Manitou Housing Complex has a long journey in order to reach that goal. Perhaps more funding is needed or better trained/experienced outreach workers who can relate to tenants concerns and health issues. Programs that would interest all tenants as a whole would be nice. Most important we tenants must try to get along with their neighbours. (as the good book says "Love thy neighbour") I've been here less then a year and I've observed alot, we have a diversity of tenants living in the building from different reservations and walks of life. Some have problems with alcohol, prescription drug addictions, physical disabilities and slight mental disabilities. The one thing we all have in common is our health concerns, from chronic back pain to deadly...
