Well folks! Financially Urban Native Homes Inc. is in the outhouse. No longer can they hide secrets. Please read the latest Hamilton Spectator news article link below:
Now for my
review and thoughts: On Friday a general
notice to tenants was delivered late in the afternoon. I was expecting an apology ie: “To all tenants we fucked up
royally and UNH’s management apologize for causing a majority of tenants to
worry they might be kicked out on the street”. But noooo what was delivered was a reminder to
pay the rent on time or face eviction.
Maintenance work orders are to be sent vie email. Are you kidding me! UNH’s doesn’t have a general public website so
who’s to say they will receive the email, another alternative is to phone the
office and someone will write down the work order information. Really!
I suppose it’s possible if someone would answer the damm phone. :P And last but not least the notice gave a
vague description operations are running normally and everything is sweet as
candy in the land of UNH’s.
After reading
today’s news article it’s true they do have maintenance issues, at KMHC one
unit has a large hole on her ceiling it’s been like that for months. I was not surprised when the tenant recently
mention to me she’s fed up and planning to move out. In my unit a repair and a replacement is
needed so I submitted a maintenance work order to the receptionist a few weeks
ago and nothing happened. I was willing
to overlook the delay once I read the scandal in the Hamilton Spectator by
allowing time for UNH’s to get their shit together. But now fuck it I’ll try and fix the problem
myself. I’ll just add this to the list
of what UNH’s owes me.
It’s an open
secret for years Odroheka Men’s Residence building on Kenilworth Ave is a money
pit. UNH’s staff member Luke Johns is
affiliated with the building to what level I’m not sure probably building manager. Years ago I met the young man when he was a
floor cleaner at KMHC I like him he was respectful to the tenant elders. The
last time I saw Luke was a month ago at the H.E.D.E.C. community
meeting. He arrived quite late then took a seat
next to me, when it was his turn to speak he praised his position at the Men’s
Residence. I was going to challenge him
by asking how Odroheka is really doing but changed my mind. It wasn’t the time or place for it.
At the
moment I’m thinking how embarrassing this is for the Hamilton aboriginal community. Like I’ve written in so many previous blogs it’s
time UNH’s management be replaced. The suggestion UNH’s be transferred to
another aboriginal organization seems the right course of action.
