OMG! Bedbugs.

Continuing from my previous blog post, today I found out the community room is infested with bedbugs yet the KMHC office staff failed to inform the tenants in writing.  I had to figure it out when another “24 hr. notice to enter unit” was quickly delivered under my door by HOW Christine Demik at 4 pm. (you should see that girl move).  The notice says due to bedbugs found in the common area of the building (The community room) there will be a bedbug building inspection on Friday.  This is interesting because there are no couches or beds in the community room. There’s a kitchen and closet area, tables and chairs in the centre and computer station in the corner. In fact the community room is a low ceiling bachelor unit with no bathroom or appliances.  Bedbugs don’t discriminate you can be rich or poor, young or old like the HSC or pear shaped like HOW Lynda Jones those buggers will come after you. I think when KMHC had the St.Valentines Day luncheon in the community room the bedbugs came in disguised as lovebugs then infesting the area.  :D
It’s a serious problem in our fair city.  Recently at the multicultural group we had an open discussion on the stigma involving bedbugs and why we can’t eradicate them.
The main reason it’s a multi billion dollar business the pest control companies are making large profits by going around buildings steam cleaning, spraying furniture and homes yet those little blood sucking bugs keep coming back.  Manufacturers that design nylon bedbug mattress covers are expensive but worth it.  Years ago cockroaches use to be the main infestation today bedbugs have top billing.  The Gov’t has to get involved by working on a permanent solution.  If intelligent humans can send a robot to planet Mars and send information back to Earth then surly we can develop a safe permanent pesticide that will kill bedbugs once and for all.
Personally I can’t stand bedbugs they are worse then any pests I’ve encountered including the KMHC office staff.  I keep my apt clean and tidy 24/7 and I’m glad to say my neighbour in 1-D does the same.  For my own peace of mind I have a box spring and mattress bedbug cover encasement and I check it often.
It's a good thing the community room is located at the far end of the hallway.  Before I sat down to write this blog I checked my bed area again, there are no bedbugs in my unit.  On Friday I will briefly allow the Action Pest Control guy in my unit but I’ll be laying ground rules: Do not touch or move my furniture or my belongings, if anything has to be moved I can do it myself.  I’m a big man.

There is no specific time written when the bed bug guys will be arriving at the building of Friday so this afternoon I took the liberty of calling the bed bug company for information. I explained to the receptionist our landlord will not give us a time, I introduced myself as a tenant, gave them my address, I was told according to their schedule the beg bug technicians will be at the KMHC building 9 am. Yipee! Now I can plan my day.
Hell, I’m not even on the payroll and I can do a better job informing tenants, the KMHC staff is useless. When I say KMHC staff I’m referring to HSC Ingrid and the little hobbit HOW Lynda Jones.

Wigwamin Terrace

After many years I received a call for Toronto Native Housing offering a vacancy so I decided to explore my options by attending a viewing of what's available. But first I did a phone interview with acting project manager Paul Feitelberg. He said my personal and financial information checks out fine then we talked about the negative reference I got from Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services. I was asked for my side of the story and I also invited Paul to read this blog site to find out more who I am.  A few days later I called Paul for an update, I was complimented on my blog posts and he could see the love and compassion I have for the Native people on this blog site.  Due to the Hamilton cyber attack it was difficult for Paul get a reference from my current housing provider so with my assistance I helped him get in contact with their office. I received an excellent tenant reference from my housing provider. When I asked about OAHS he said he's going to ignore their negative re...

The Ladies of KMHC

I & friend Teresa Last week I attended a program host by NWC Hamilton, it was there I met up with six female tenants of KMHC.   It was nice to see the ladies again I was greeted with hugs and smiles.   The program was Holistic teachings by Jane Burning she spoke about the Creator and positive thinking.   I enjoyed the presentation though it was a wee bit long.   During lunch break I had the chance to chat with the KMHC tenants to find out how’s life going at KMHC.   Things haven’t improved most tenants don’t like each other and there’s a lot of negative energy in the building.   I offered a sympathetic ear and didn’t judge as they shared their stories. The big problem with KMHC is tenant Aunt Opie and I’m glad she didn’t attend the NWC program.   You may recall I spoke of her in past blogs, aunt Opie’s negativity spreads throughout KMHC.   She brags about sending false complaint e-mails about tenants and staff to Justin the head direc...

Koo Gaa Da Win Manitou

I hope one day we can truly say there is a haven where older natives who experienced homelessness can find a place to call home and have the resources available for the best quality of life in their golden years. Koo Ga Da Win Manitou Housing Complex has a long journey in order to reach that goal. Perhaps more funding is needed or better trained/experienced outreach workers who can relate to tenants concerns and health issues. Programs that would interest all tenants as a whole would be nice. Most important we tenants must try to get along with their neighbours. (as the good book says "Love thy neighbour") I've been here less then a year and I've observed alot, we have a diversity of tenants living in the building from different reservations and walks of life. Some have problems with alcohol, prescription drug addictions, physical disabilities and slight mental disabilities. The one thing we all have in common is our health concerns, from chronic back pain to deadly...
