Recently I read a report from the mayor the two Hamilton
Indigenous housing providers will get $10 million from the city these funds are for repairs and maintenance and upgrades. The rivalry is apparent and will be good to
see Urban Native Homes Inc. and Sacajewea Non-Profit Housing battle over who
will get most funding. Now is the time
for UNH tenants to submit their request in writing. KMHC units do need an upgrade ie: no bathroom
and kitchen back splash tiles were ever installed, cupboards were never
painted. UNH really went for the “cheap”
back in the beginning. A fresh coat of
paint for some units and replace the flooring.
Improve the outdated intercom system I can’t tell you how many times the
system broke down in the past year.
During the evening I see insects that look like beetles crawling around
the KMHC entrance stairs and hallways and nothing is done about it.
UNH was told to replace the KMHC community mailbox after a tenant went to Hamilton Community Legal Clinic for help, she wasn’t receiving her mail in the normal fashion and the H.O.W. was giving her lame excuses to why. Way to go tenant Linda L. for speaking out. :) I was there the day two scruffy looking male contractors in an old truck installed the new community mailbox. Notice there’s no official Canada Post decal on the mailbox container. I found out on Friday the H.O.W. has deliberately returned my mail to the sender. Somehow there was a slight error in the address yet the name is correct on the envelope and the KMHC office knows where I live. This was an important letter I was expecting, it would have been easier to get staff member Teresa W. to drop off my mail and explain the situation so I can correct it. The H.O.W. caused inconvenience and delay.
From my observation the KMHC office upgrades get priority new
office furniture and camera software installation for tenant surveillance. UNH recently installed automatic entrance door
opening device and intercom for their visitors. Now the building has paper arrow stickers plastered
all over the entrance and basement hallway pointing toward the office. I wonder which one came up with that idiotic
idea. It’s not fair to native tenant elders
who have to get dressed and physical walk to open the front door, 70% of KMHC
tenants have mobility issues. Units must
have CCTV connection, an intercom system that works and a buzzer that unlocks
the front door for their family & guests.
The UNH/KMHC tenant surveillance - this is how it works,
every day the H.O.W. will scan the stop-motion recording, look for any
infraction and complain to the tenant. I
know because I observed former staff member Chad General doing the task. CCTV building perimeter and hallway surveillance
is to be use for security purposes only.

Anyway a few weeks ago I filed an official complaint to UNH
acting director and H.P.S. seniors support police officer regarding H.O.W.
Lynda Jones attitude and behavior towards myself & other tenants. I gave the acting director an ultimatum if
nothing is done about the H.O.W. then I will take further steps.
This link is for the Kenatah tenants I hope this helps with
the parking dilemma.
