Life Before Death

My ticket
Last week I attended a free event hosted by Hamilton Health Sciences at Lincoln Alexander Centre in downtown Hamilton.  As I entered the centre I was greeted by friendly door staff and directed to the ticket booth, the venue reminds me when I worked at a banquet centre.  There was no reserved seating so I claimed the first seat on the right aisle, 3rd row from the front.  Later I decided to get a drink at the bar before the event starts…ice cold bottled water for me please.

Dr. B. J. Miller, MD a charismatic speaker who took charge of the stage filled with humor and medical knowledge.  The theme was ‘Life Before Death’ you may think what a morbid, gloomy subject but no it wasn’t the information shared by Dr. Miller and the panel on hospice and palliative care was very informative.  I’ve often wondered when I approach near the end of my life what will it be like!  Will I be a burden to my family!  Will I be cared for in a dignified way and still have a roof over my head.  All these questions I seek were found at the presentation.  I have no plans of going anywhere soon and I have no fear of death yet I'm not looking forward to the dying process.  I know what to expect which is why today I live my life to the fullest by being active, stress free, medical checkups, positive friends and avoiding the assholes.

Here’s a story.  The original plan was fellow tenant Joan & I to attend the event but she forgot to order her ticket before being sold out.  There I was dressed for the occasion when I knocked on her door and said R U ready!  Realizing her forgetfulness she rushed to the internet claiming she can get a ticket.  I was pessimistic and said I’ll see you there then off I went.  When the presentation was over I left the auditorium, walked down the stairs and guess who I ran into…Joan!  She was in the standby room.  I was totally surprised to see her and impressed with her determination.  Apparently she begged, nagged and offered her first born in order to get a ticket. *joke* :D   It’s too bad she watched the event on a monitor but Hey at least she attended.  It was a good evening for me and I’m looking forward to the next presentation.

UNH's should be on top of these medical type free events and pass the information to the KMHC native elders.  But nooo they would rather practice a non productive tactic of ostracizing tenants and utter threats of eviction whenever possible.  :(
