Moving Day Anniversary

It’s been one year since Urban Native Home Inc. moved their head office.  Yes indeed from a spacious building on Albert Street to the cramp basement level of KMHC.  I thought will UNH’s office staff and residence get along!  The staff soon learn Native elders don’t take it lightly when invaders take over their residential building.  There were a few creases to be ironed out i.e.  The noise from the office side door opening and closing during the day, loud conversation in the hallway and my least personal favorite staff parking their vehicles in front of my window.  It could be debated at the landlord and tenant tribunal is staff “Interfering with the tenant’s enjoyment of rental unit” or do they have the right to park in a laneway that was designed for shipping and receiving raw materials.  You can still see the outline of a loading bay that’s been long ago removed.  Many years ago KMHC was originally a manufacturing building; onlookers can still see the stone engraved original company name at the entrance.
Narrow laneway to nowhere.
My window.
Once again a few weeks ago a trainee parked their vehicle in front of my side window it’s noticeable since my unit is in the basement.  Picture this:  I open my blinds for the day and I see dirty wheels and rust spots of a vehicle completely covering my large rectangular window blocking the natural light.  “Reminder to self” next time must capture a photo from inside my unit as evidence.  By chance I saw office clerk Crystal outside during her brake so I decided to have a chat about the parking situation and she suggests a compromise.  I thought Whaat!  The holier-than-thou Urban Native Homes Inc. is offering a compromise.  Shocking I know but I agreed to hear what she had to say.  The compromise:  In the future I don't put letters on any parked car in front of my window and in return she’ll make sure the window area is clear.  I gave her a stern look and said that’s why I’m talking to you so I don’t have to put a reminder note on any parked vehicle.  I don’t know what she was thinking her compromise didn’t make sense, in hindsight I believe it was her attempt to get the upper edge on our conversation.  Anyway the situation have been resolved and when I open my blinds the window is clear I can see the blue sky.  I want to publicly thank Tim the driver and Phil the maintenance guy for always keeping far from my window as possible when they park.  Way to go guys!  :)

Speaking of parking space today it’s confirmed an impish employee in the UNH’s organization is not a team player to her co-workers plus she’s the cop caller of petty personal issues.  Her and Leslie the person from across the street should hook up. What would happen when they rub each other!  Will a genie appear or another imp. :D

Its UNH’s head office anniversary and I have no ill feelings toward the Administration team they seem like a great bunch of gals.  Who should they celebrate this festive occasion with!  Well it’s not Ingrid Nosel she’s somewhere getting therapy and the elusive UNH’s acting director Christine Lenze won’t set foot at KMHC for obvious reasons.  God Bless her minions without them she would be lost, homeless and unemployed.  Now who wants cake?  ;)

Gosh! The staff are still moving files to the KMHC building in Bankers box and large plastic containers. Anymore downsizing there will be no room to fart in the office area. :D

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

The Passing of Dean King

There's not many original KMHC tenants left that I know, last week I got word tenant Dean King passed away, we were not related and I remember when he moved in the building we got along well, we hung out often and he shared stories about his life and family. Eventually I notice he wasn't the sharpest pencil in the drawer and I started drifting away thus ended our friendship. Dean didn't have the usual addictions most male aboriginals endure he didn't drink or do drugs the problem was his mental state which I believe began after an auto accident years before.  After I moved out of KMHC I'd often see him standing in line at the food bank in Gore Park in downtown Hamilton or hanging out with street friend Galina in Jackson Square food court. He didn't have many friends and other KMHC tenants just tolerated and accepted his strange behavior. He'd walk the streets looking disheveled and lost.  When I received the news Dean died I didn't feel sad I felt surpri...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP
