OMG! Bedbugs.

Continuing from my previous blog post, today I found out the community room is infested with bedbugs yet the KMHC office staff failed to inform the tenants in writing.   I had to figure it out when another “24 hr. notice to enter unit” was quickly delivered under my door by HOW Christine Demik at 4 pm. (you should see that girl move).   The notice says due to bedbugs found in the common area of the building (The community room) there will be a bedbug building inspection on Friday.   This is interesting because there are no couches or beds in the community room. There’s a kitchen and closet area, tables and chairs in the centre and computer station in the corner. In fact the community room is a low ceiling bachelor unit with no bathroom or appliances.   Bedbugs don’t discriminate you can be rich or poor, young or old like the HSC or pear shaped like HOW Lynda Jones those buggers will come after you. I think when KMHC had the St.Valentines Day luncheon in the community...

Community Room Is Closed

The image you see above is a photocopy.  There is no signature from the housing outreach workers or the housing service coordinator Ingrid because they don't want to be held accountable.  But observe the UNH's logo on the top left corner this will confirm its authenticity. Remember in January I received a letter stating I'm banned from HOW programs and my reaction was similar to "I don't give a shit!"  Well folks judging by the note that is posted on the bulletin boards this afternoon the KMHC office staff are up to their old tricks by closing down the recreational room for reasons unknown and the KMHC tenants are left in the dark.  This means no computer access for tenants who use it, no watching the big screen TV, no arts & crafts or sewing circle and no area for tenants to socialize in the KMHC building.  I really don't understand UNH's logic, seems like it's a tactic for tenants to feel unwelcome and move out.  I feel sorry for the Nati...

Fire Alarm Inspection II

Can UNH’s please give us a break on these inspections!   Last night the KMHC office posted a fire alarm inspection follow up.   Instead of “follow up” it should be titled “fuck up”. A barrel of monkeys could run this place better.  As far as I’m concerned the last fire alarm inspection a few weeks ago went without a glitch so why are we being inconvenienced?   Today we’ll have to endure sirens being tested and like last time plain clothed fire inspectors wandering in our units.   Due to the extreme cold weather I’m finally recovering from a major cold and not in the mood for these interruptions.   This morning I sent a fax to the UNH’s Director here is an excerpt:  UNH’s Director.   This evening I see an unsigned “24 hour Notice of Entry” is posted on the KMHC bulletin board stating a unit fire alarm inspection follow up is scheduled for February 19 between the hours of 12 noon – 8:30 pm.   I will remind you we had a complete buil...

Gimme The Keys.

Greetings to the readers around the world, I hope the weather is better where you are because it’s snowing constantly in the land of Canada. Brrr!   Today I’m going to talk about keys. Upon moving in the new KMHC tenants are given one set of keys for the mail box, front entrance and their rented unit and only the KMHC staff can enter the unit in case of an emergency.   As some readers may know due to the aging process some Native elders that live in this place have physical disabilities, mild mental health issues and chronic illness.  It’s during these times family is important to them.   Tenants should be able to give a trusted individual (i.e. a son, daughter or friend) a spare key to periodically check on their loved ones, but UNH’s disagree.   To point out how important this is three years ago a tenant died on the floor in her unit and the family blamed UNH’s/KMHC staff they believe if they had a key there’s a possibility the tenant would be alive today....

Fire Alarm Inspection 2015

Last week we received the annual fire alarm inspection “24 hour notice of entry” under our door.   Once again I have to remind Urban Native Homes Inc about the time issue   Stating an open time frame between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm for any unit inspection in a small building is unacceptable and I’m not the only one who disapproves.   The female tenants in the sewing circle were also complaining. Here are some rules. According to the Landlord and Tenant act: 24 hour Contents of notice   (3) The written notice under subsection (1) or (2) shall specify the reason for entry, the day of entry and a time of entry between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. 2006, c. 17, s. 27 (3). This means the KMHC staff must work out a schedule/timetable with the inspectors on time of arrival and calculate how much time will be spent in each unit then post it in the "24 hour notice of entry".  Not a hard task for those with Excel office skills....ohh wait!  I forgot, it takes...
