Lost & Found

On Monday after the office closed for the day I received a phone call @ 5:30 pm from the UNH’s maintenance guy (I’ll call him Dr. Phil) he misplaced his expensive walkie-talkie and asked if I could check the courtyard, I replied no problem.  As I checked there were a few strangers sitting on the bench so I asked if they seen a walkie-talkie!  The man said he found it and turned it in to the police station. I went to the C.S. explained the situation to the front desk officer and they gave me the device.  I called Dr. Phil later that evening, he was relieved it was found and I gave it to him the next day.  UNH's would have charged him $1,000 to replace it.  See folks!  I’m always willing to go the extra mile to help others even the UNH’s staff.   :)
Last week there was a bulletin board posting for tenants to check out a program in the community room hosted by two McMaster University students. We were misinformed by the office staff, I thought it was a presentation on nutrition but instead it was a workshop. These students were not nutritionists they had about the same knowledge we had on nutritional foods. I soon lost interest in the program and I won’t be attending the next one  What was more interesting was listening what the tenants has to discuss about traditional foods, what they eat and how they cope with diabetes and other aliments.  At times the topic would sway to other things, never the less I was impressed to find out when it comes to proper foods most tenants look out for each other.  Poor H.O.W. probie Christine I got the impression she was bored.  Half way through the workshop guess which old bag silently came into the community room didn't say a word and stood behind me for five minutes.   Yep…..it was HSC Ingrid.  EEEK!  Now that was creepy.  :P

Fathers Day Luncheon – This was the first time UNH’s hosted a luncheon for the male tenants in the KMHC building.  At the time I wasn’t sure if I’d attend because I cut myself shaving and it wouldn’t stop bleeding.  Eventually I showed up, the food was ok but not great.  I sat with my fellow tenants and ate, silly conversation with roast beef and mashed potatoes go well together.  :)

Aboriginal Day celebrations begin this weekend.  Shine up your moccasins it's going to be a hoot.  :)

For the longest time I could hear a neighbour's smoke alarm going off so I knocked on her door to see if she's ok. The device was malfunctioning and the tenant was in panic mode. I found the electrical box so I turned off the power. The maintenance dept was called hopefully they can correct the problem.

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP

The Ladies of KMHC

I & friend Teresa Last week I attended a program host by NWC Hamilton, it was there I met up with six female tenants of KMHC.   It was nice to see the ladies again I was greeted with hugs and smiles.   The program was Holistic teachings by Jane Burning she spoke about the Creator and positive thinking.   I enjoyed the presentation though it was a wee bit long.   During lunch break I had the chance to chat with the KMHC tenants to find out how’s life going at KMHC.   Things haven’t improved most tenants don’t like each other and there’s a lot of negative energy in the building.   I offered a sympathetic ear and didn’t judge as they shared their stories. The big problem with KMHC is tenant Aunt Opie and I’m glad she didn’t attend the NWC program.   You may recall I spoke of her in past blogs, aunt Opie’s negativity spreads throughout KMHC.   She brags about sending false complaint e-mails about tenants and staff to Justin the head direc...
