Ingrid Nosel’s Announcement

Yesterday morning there was a tenant meeting scheduled for 10 30 am.  Walking in the room to my surprise there was a presentation going on by the CFS.  It was a sleezy tactic by the HSC to get the tenants to the presentation by not telling us in advance. The tenants were expecting a tenant meeting, not some woman going on & on about household clutter.  When the CFS presentation was over KMHC staff began the tenant meeting.
The worse speech from the HSC Ingrid Nosel was about to begin.  She went on about tenants being respectful to others and the staff which I agree with. Then I reminded her about her verbal outbursts and her bad attitude towards tenants which also has to stop.  Respect goes both ways Ingrid.
Tenant Judy who has a physical disability had a concern about emergencies in the unit.  Ingrid’s response was “We can’t help you, you have to make your own arrangements” I immediately said to Judy “Don’t worry we tenants can be there for you if you need help.”  Another topic Ingrid went on about was “their mandate” but never explained what that entails.
Here’s the shocker folks!  HSC Ingrid Nosel suggested current native elder tenants look for other accommodation to make way for others who are on the waiting list.  When I heard this I had to speak up. I looked at her and said ”The only one that can evict a tenant is the Sheriff, he has to have a court order so be prepared for a long process” she just stared at me.  I found out later Ingrid’s statement made a few tenants feel unwelcome living at KMHC.  :(
Ingrid has made some ridiculous comments in the past. ie: It’s mandatory for tenants to attend all tenant meetings which I found out later to be false. She’s filed false N5 documents. Therefore anything this woman says I consider as B.S.
In the middle of her speech she suddenly announced “she’s never been in a residential school”  I thought “ok what does that have to do with tenant issues!”  Hmm!  Looks like it’s time for Ingrid to take her medication. :P  Finally when she finished her speech she walked out of the meeting claiming she had to be somewhere else but in reality she wanted to avoid questions by the tenants.  If this is UNH's idea of a plan then Shame On Them.

Recycling box – These blue boxes have been sitting in the hallway ever since The City of Hamilton ordered the recycling room closed and was unsafe.  Recently the staff moved the boxes near the front doorway area of mine and another tenant. On weekends the hallway stinks and it’s an eyesore when these blue boxes are filled with recyclable waste. I complained about this at the tenant meeting and hopefully the KMHC staff will listen to my solution.

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP

The Passing of Dean King

There's not many original KMHC tenants left that I know, last week I got word tenant Dean King passed away, we were not related and I remember when he moved in the building we got along well, we hung out often and he shared stories about his life and family. Eventually I notice he wasn't the sharpest pencil in the drawer and I started drifting away thus ended our friendship. Dean didn't have the usual addictions most male aboriginals endure he didn't drink or do drugs the problem was his mental state which I believe began after an auto accident years before.  After I moved out of KMHC I'd often see him standing in line at the food bank in Gore Park in downtown Hamilton or hanging out with street friend Galina in Jackson Square food court. He didn't have many friends and other KMHC tenants just tolerated and accepted his strange behavior. He'd walk the streets looking disheveled and lost.  When I received the news Dean died I didn't feel sad I felt surpri...
