Last week UNH staff member Teresa Workman’s family came to
the office with gifts and to wish and sing Happy Birthday to her. I thought what a nice gesture, it’s obvious
to me Teresa has a loving, caring family. I’m sure the tenants who saw and heard the
celebration felt happy for Teresa. I
know I did. :)
On 11/24/17 I received a N5 eviction Notice from Urban Native
Homes. There was a complaint from tenant Joan Frame that I’m in violation of her human rights and interfering with
her enjoyment of her unit by posting comments on my blog site. After consulting with paralegal counsel I was
advised to edit or remove the few offending comments, after her explanation on the law and
thinking about it I reluctantly made the changes.
To avoid eviction the landlord also wrote a clause in the N5
notice that I will not agree with. Urban
Native Homes Inc. wants to control and sensor what I write about tenants in the future on all
social media outlets. Generally
I offer praise to my fellow tenants with the exception of a few should they
pester me. I believe this is an Urban
Native Homes Inc. ploy to shut me up on their shenanigans by using a tenant’s
petty complaint as an excuse to evict and control me.
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms state:
2. Everybody has fundamental freedoms
(b) Freedom of
thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and
other media of communication.
I take pride in this blog site and I want to keep it active
and online. So how can I beat
Urban Native Homes Inc. and keep my tenancy then I came up with an ingenious idea. I will switch the blog site to private and
only invite select friends, social media supporters, the news media and local
government officials to read my ongoing blogs. The N5 eviction notice expires in 6 months. In the early months of 2018 this blog site will be public
again. In the meantime I will continue to write and post Native Housing blogs and the general public will have to catch up on all the news in the Spring.
I informed the landlord I made the necessary blog adjustments
and they are now blocked from this site, the management, their paralegal and
two tenants will not get access. Since
they are blocked there is nothing for them to complain about. Out of sight & out of mind. I also said if this arrangement is not
satisfactory then let’s go to the Landlord and Tenant Tribunal and get a ruling
because I’m not leaving without a fight.

Today I received a phone call from the UNH housing administrator Mrs. Mackenzie. She wanted to touch base meaning she explained in full detail on what led up to the N5 eviction notice. Without her knowledge Urban Native Homes Inc. paralegal acted on a complaint from another paralegal representing a female tenant. You may know the tenant if not I’ll whisper her name in your ear. The complainant’s paralegal is from Hamilton Community legal Clinic this explains why I was denied legal counsel from that office and had to go elsewhere.
I first met the UNH housing administrator last summer when she worked at the KMHC office location. I got the impression she’s a fair person and willing to help resolve tenant issues or at least listen. On a social standpoint we exchange pleasantries during her and Mellissa’s courtyard smoke brakes.
Anyway Mrs. Mackenzie and I had a long discussion over the N5 notice we covered at lot of ground regarding other tenants in the building and what is expected of me. I’m glad she took the time to explain and I’m not angry with UNH anymore I now know who’s the real evil sorceress and there will be repercussions.
1. The complainer will not get access to this blog site
2. She inadvertently made me become a better blogger.
3. Made me realize there is no way in hell we will ever be friends.
