Approaching the Holiday Season

It’s been quiet around KMHC and I don’t feel like listening to the H.O.W. and a male tenant play “Patty-Cake” in the hallway. :D  The past three weeks have been a blast, greeting my favorite tenants, going about my daily activities and hanging out with others outside KMHC.  Not even the visit from UNH paralegal clerk could spoil my day, I’ll go into that on a later date.

The Native Women’s Centre of Hamilton does wonderful things and I highly recommend sponsors, fundraisers and donators support this organization.  I’ve mentioned this before in a previous blog they do their best assisting natives with their food bank.  Recently for the first time I was asked if I need a winter coat and I said yes.  I was instructed to meet the ladies at Walmart at a certain time and date and wouldn’t you know it I couldn’t find them.  Eventually I found the NWC outreach workers Yvonne, Patti and Glenda they greeted me with a smile then I picked out a nice winter coat that will certainly keep out the winter chill.  Escorting me to the checkout was the NWC program director Miss Dixie she reminded me of my aunt.  Before leaving I thanked and shook her hand for the gift.  Migwetch/Thank you. Walking to the bus stop I met up with tenants Uncle Albert and Peter they also picked up their gift.  :)

Remember Janis Lewis-Deeley the UNH director who was fired by the UNH board members!   I found out on a website she’s the vice-president board member of Native Women’s Centre.  Wow!  She got back on her feet quite fast. :)
A reminder to read the updated comments on Kenatah Complex.  The tenants up there need municipal Govt. help.  Here is the link. https://tinyurl.com/yavqxfwl

Again there was a mix up with UNH ’24 hour notice to enter unit’  It’s written they want to do boiler repairs in my unit and may take pictures.  I disagree with the notice and I informed Crystal M.  If UNH did research on the building they would know the basement units have electrical heaters and not connected to the main boiler plus UNH has to come up with a better reason why they would take photos of my home.  On notice day I had to go out that afternoon so I connected my stop motion security camera and guess what, nobody entered my unit.

Once a month I usually check out a movie on matinee Tuesdays this time I saw ‘Justice League’ at Silvercity Ancaster and I was totally blown away.  If you readers are DC comic book fans check out the film.  Another community organization I belong to is Wesley Urban Ministries.  On Thursday our group had a field trip to Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada.  Please check out my link for all the fun details. https://tinyurl.com/y7e5brdq

Approaching the holidays and missing those Christmas parties, the atmosphere here feels so still, we are missing all the beautiful things that were taking away from us hopefully this new management will improve things around here

..I agree plus new management will bring back major supporters like The United Way and other agencies. I recall a former staff member once told me during the holidays KMHC would receive Christmas gifts from agencies for the tenant seniors. HSC Ingrid Nosel would distribute and keep a portion then give them to her family and friends while tenants like myself would be excluded, She was a heartless woman.

Wigwamin Terrace

After many years I received a call for Toronto Native Housing offering a vacancy so I decided to explore my options by attending a viewing of what's available. But first I did a phone interview with acting project manager Paul Feitelberg. He said my personal and financial information checks out fine then we talked about the negative reference I got from Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services. I was asked for my side of the story and I also invited Paul to read this blog site to find out more who I am.  A few days later I called Paul for an update, I was complimented on my blog posts and he could see the love and compassion I have for the Native people on this blog site.  Due to the Hamilton cyber attack it was difficult for Paul get a reference from my current housing provider so with my assistance I helped him get in contact with their office. I received an excellent tenant reference from my housing provider. When I asked about OAHS he said he's going to ignore their negative re...

The Ladies of KMHC

I & friend Teresa Last week I attended a program host by NWC Hamilton, it was there I met up with six female tenants of KMHC.   It was nice to see the ladies again I was greeted with hugs and smiles.   The program was Holistic teachings by Jane Burning she spoke about the Creator and positive thinking.   I enjoyed the presentation though it was a wee bit long.   During lunch break I had the chance to chat with the KMHC tenants to find out how’s life going at KMHC.   Things haven’t improved most tenants don’t like each other and there’s a lot of negative energy in the building.   I offered a sympathetic ear and didn’t judge as they shared their stories. The big problem with KMHC is tenant Aunt Opie and I’m glad she didn’t attend the NWC program.   You may recall I spoke of her in past blogs, aunt Opie’s negativity spreads throughout KMHC.   She brags about sending false complaint e-mails about tenants and staff to Justin the head direc...

Koo Gaa Da Win Manitou

I hope one day we can truly say there is a haven where older natives who experienced homelessness can find a place to call home and have the resources available for the best quality of life in their golden years. Koo Ga Da Win Manitou Housing Complex has a long journey in order to reach that goal. Perhaps more funding is needed or better trained/experienced outreach workers who can relate to tenants concerns and health issues. Programs that would interest all tenants as a whole would be nice. Most important we tenants must try to get along with their neighbours. (as the good book says "Love thy neighbour") I've been here less then a year and I've observed alot, we have a diversity of tenants living in the building from different reservations and walks of life. Some have problems with alcohol, prescription drug addictions, physical disabilities and slight mental disabilities. The one thing we all have in common is our health concerns, from chronic back pain to deadly...
