Thrown Under The Bus

Another casualty in the land of UNH’s happened earlier this week, Debra the tenant transportation driver/receptionist was “thrown under the bus” a metaphor meaning she was fired in a unconventional manner.  Imagine showing up early for work on Monday morning usually at 8:15 am, do a run, come back to the office and be handed a dismissal note from HOW Lynda Jones. :(  Like anybody else you would be shocked and upset this is similar to what happened to former HOW Stephanie Hager some years ago.  Main reason for being fired: being too close to the tenants.  The only time I use the transportation service was during the Christmas holiday season to the Annual Native dinner held at a banquet hall on Kenilworth Ave.  During this time I found Debra to be friendly, cordial and professional.  It’s unreasonable to think a UNH’s staff member will sit with us at a dinner function or drive a tenant to their destination and back and not have a light conversation.  A few days ago for the first time I messaged Debra on Facebook I expressed my sympathy and wished her well in the future she replied back with a thank you.  :)
UNH’s Maintenance Staff – I would like to thank Donna, Darryl and Tim for the quick response to my fax. Finally the tenants on my floor will not have to look at ugly blue recycling bins lined up near our entrance doors.  It’s been an issue my neighbor and I presented to HOW’s Lynda and Christine at a previous tenant meeting and yet they chose to ignore our complaint.  Even after the meeting I privately reminded the HOW’s to take our complaint seriously, they just sat there looking stupid.  I don’t have any respect for the HOW’s Lynda and Christine.  No doubt they contributed to Debra’s dismissal.  Lynda walks around with the attitude she owns the place and Christine follows her around like a lost mangy mongrel.  I’m waiting for the day when I see them two skipping down the KMHC hallway holding hands, smiling at each other and chewing bubble gum as they head for the bedbug room.  :D

On Saturday June 20 2015 from 12 noon to 2 pm I plan to be at the Aboriginal day celebrations at Gage Park, Hamilton Ontario Canada.  Last year they didn’t have a good turn out so this year I’m going to do my part by posting the link to the event.  You’ll find me touring the event, soaking up the sunshine and people watching, this usually gives me inspiration on what to write on my next blog.  When you see me at the celebrations don't forget a “Hi Tony!”  Smile, wave, and I’ll wave back.   It’s what we Natives do best.  :)

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

The Ladies of KMHC

I & friend Teresa Last week I attended a program host by NWC Hamilton, it was there I met up with six female tenants of KMHC.   It was nice to see the ladies again I was greeted with hugs and smiles.   The program was Holistic teachings by Jane Burning she spoke about the Creator and positive thinking.   I enjoyed the presentation though it was a wee bit long.   During lunch break I had the chance to chat with the KMHC tenants to find out how’s life going at KMHC.   Things haven’t improved most tenants don’t like each other and there’s a lot of negative energy in the building.   I offered a sympathetic ear and didn’t judge as they shared their stories. The big problem with KMHC is tenant Aunt Opie and I’m glad she didn’t attend the NWC program.   You may recall I spoke of her in past blogs, aunt Opie’s negativity spreads throughout KMHC.   She brags about sending false complaint e-mails about tenants and staff to Justin the head direc...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP
