Celebrations started on Friday June 19, 2015 outside Hamilton
City Hall, I showed up in time to watch the native children hoop dancing for
the small crowd. Then I ran into my
neighbor Debbie we talked for bit then preceded to the free BBQ, hot dogs,
potato chips and bottled water plus cake for dessert was offered. May I suggest next time serve fried baloney
sandwiches with mustard we natives consider it a delicacy. The HOW’s Lynda and Christine were there and only
a few tenants hung out with them.
Saturday morning I was on my way to the store when I saw a
group of KMHC tenants waiting in the courtyard for the van. Pick up time was for 9 30 am, due to lack of
communication among the KMHC staff the Native elders were left sitting in the
courtyard for two hours waiting for a ride to the Aboriginal Pow Wow held at
Gage Park. The tenants were pissed off and rightly so. Finally little Debbie took the initiative to call a staff member and
remind them “Hey! You have tenants waiting” Guess who shows up with the van! John Nosel (Ingrid’s husband aka the creeper) I wonder if he’s
insured to drive the van full of KMHC tenants when he’s not a UNH’s employee. :P
Anyway I took the bus to Gage Park it’s a lot safer and when
I arrived I saw many friends and acquaintances.
I browsed at the native art and crafts that were for sale and I bought a
key chain. It was a good turnout at the event and I enjoyed the native dancers
doing what they do best. I even took
time to play bingo (it’s a game that really doesn’t interest me) fellow tenant
Howie needed to use the restroom and asked me to play his bingo cards I was
worried I might mess up, I didn’t get the chance to shout BINGO! but I did ok.
:)
The original UNH’s gang is diminishing I only recognize
Darryl and Teresa at the UNH’s booth never the less I did say hello to
them. Congratulations to UNH’s employee
Luke Johns on his engagement. Former
UNH’s board member Marilyn Wright and I shared a few laughs and surprisingly I
met up with my son, he volunteered his time setting up the venue we only had a
few minutes to chat when he was called back to work. I got the chance to meet KMHC former driver
Debra I gave her a big hug and wished her well. Tomorrow (Sunday) the Pan Am
Games torch relay will arrive at the Aboriginal Pow Wow location at Gage Park,
that’s all fine and dandy but I’m too pooped out to attend. I’ll watch it on TV.
I have a scoop!
Acting UNH’s Executive Director Christine Lenze and HSC Ingrid Nosel are
related (Mother and daughter) My Goodness!
Does anybody sense nepotism! :P
Happy Aboriginal Day
to all the readers around the world. :)
