Camera Surveillance 11

For the past few years the UNH's/KMHC staff has denied the building cameras are used for tenant surveillance, but now I have proof in writing that KMHC do use the building cameras to watch and record tenants 24/7 and I totally disapprove of this intrusive practice.
I received an N5 eviction notice under my door this afternoon by sleazy paralegal Dale Skvereckas.  The staff aka HSC Ingrid claim one late evening in early October 2014 "posting a specific time and date" I covered one of three cameras with my hand which is mounted high on the wall next to the front entrance then I opened the door for my guest and proceeded to my unit.
Then three weeks ago around 9 pm I went to visit a neighbour next to the community room and according to the claim I stood behind the camera view which is mounted on the ceiling, it shook and went black for a few moments then came back on. There are many interior blind spots in this building, this happens when UNH's hired an non professional to install the cameras and hook up the wiring = poor workmanship.  Let me say this! I have more interesting things going on in my life then trying to sabotage KMHC’s ridiculous cameras.
These are petty complaints and exaggerated claims by the HSC Ingrid (she's done this before) and since I totally disagree with the N5 notice I’m not moving out.  Just imagine UNH’s going to the Tenant Tribunal with these claims and guess what the adjudicator would say to UNH’s paralegal Dale  "Is this the best you got on Mr. King!  Get the hell out of my court."  :P
Seriously an N5 eviction notice is like a warning letter that expires in six months from the date of issue and for tenants who don’t know or understand the legal document these can be stressful.  A simple phone call would have been sufficient, abusing the use of these documents by the landlord is something I’m going to look into.
I would suggest KMHC staff focus on completing assignments on time, do follow ups when requested, brainstorm why few tenants attend their programs, loose the bad attitude and respect the tenant native elders.
This place does have potential but not with the asinine policies and staff it has now.  Every time I see HSC Ingrid Nosel she has a miserable look on her face, avoids responsibility and the HOW staff follow her direction.  I didn’t know Debra the transportation driver that well but from what I've observed outside the KMHC building Debra is personable, well known and liked in the Native community.  I recently found out for a couple of years she and my son were co-workers at another job.  My son has nothing but compliments about Debra and her daughter Naomi.  :)

Like I said I'm not going anywhere and I'm not worried about the N5 notice. Once again the HSC wasn't thinking clearly and unwillingly opened Pandora's box.

This morning I went to the Hamilton Legal Clinic to have a chat with a paralegal in regard to the N5 notice. For reassurance we went over the document and I voiced my dispute over the claim and why I believe the N5 was issued. The paralegal gave me some advice which I won’t go into detail. I made the wise decision going to the clinic their office now has a copy of the N5 and will keep it on record.
When I returned home I passed the office, the HSC was talking to a staff member and when she saw me she immediately turned her head and stared at the wall. :D silly woman.

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

The Passing of Dean King

There's not many original KMHC tenants left that I know, last week I got word tenant Dean King passed away, we were not related and I remember when he moved in the building we got along well, we hung out often and he shared stories about his life and family. Eventually I notice he wasn't the sharpest pencil in the drawer and I started drifting away thus ended our friendship. Dean didn't have the usual addictions most male aboriginals endure he didn't drink or do drugs the problem was his mental state which I believe began after an auto accident years before.  After I moved out of KMHC I'd often see him standing in line at the food bank in Gore Park in downtown Hamilton or hanging out with street friend Galina in Jackson Square food court. He didn't have many friends and other KMHC tenants just tolerated and accepted his strange behavior. He'd walk the streets looking disheveled and lost.  When I received the news Dean died I didn't feel sad I felt surpri...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP
