Tenant Meeting November 29, 2013

I decided to attend the latest tenant meeting just to see and hear what UNH’s has to report.  Usually there’s a nice luncheon held for the tenants but this time it was sparse. On the buffet table corn soup was offered that tasted bland, a plate of cheese and fry bread that was cold and hard, juice and coffee. I did enjoy the conversations that went on among my fellow tenants then it was down to business.
None of the topics applied to me personally so I sat back and listened to what the staff had to say.  Sharon the office clerk made a statement the KMHC staff keep information confidential. I thought “Are you kidding me!  The staff has the biggest mouths in the organization you can’t tell me they don’t talk among themselves about management and tenants.” A perfect example is Ingrid the HSC telling her husband what's goes on @ KMHC then he sends me messages either to complain or warn me what she's up to.
Lynda Jones the H.O.W. made a speech about the survey that was recently done, the biggest complaint among the tenants are pets and the park bench that was removed from the front of the building.  Lynda said all pet owners must submit pet information to the office ie: time of inoculations, breed or risk getting a N5 eviction notice. In regard to N5/N7 notices I reminded Lynda to mention to the tenants they have the right to dispute the notice by getting legal counsel. She clammed up when I said that.
Then it was Deb the transportation clerk's turn to speak, she made an announcement taxi ride coupons for native elders will be limited to those who need it.  Booking a time to drive an elder to a medical appointment will also be limited. Then I thought “why does UNH’s even have a transportation service if it’s not available 80% for the Native elders".
For the first time instead of making a personal appearance HSC Ingrid Nosel now has the staff passing on open messages to the tenants. I think if we tenants can make an effort to show up at tenant meetings then so should management.  What’s the matter Ingrid you too good for us now, you’d rather hide in your little cubbyhole office and watch us via the security camera monitor! :P
In conclusion the tenant meeting was boring and somewhat annoying for me to listen to. I believe the majority of tenants really don’t care what the office has to say, they attend the meetings for the food.  Btw. the corn soup gave me the shits. :P
Other news: Last week I sent a work order to the KMHC office to replace the heating and A/C unit filters. I noticed they were clogged with lint/dirt from normal use. I’m happy to report the UNH's maintenance dept were quick on it.  Thank you to Darryl and his sidekick for replacing the filters. I can breathe better. Yesterday I washed the windows on my floor and next week I may put up my annual Christmas light display.  :)

Stay tuned for my review of the UNH’s Christmas luncheon. Let's hope it will be better then last year.

As some may know my blogsite is linked to Google+. Twitter and Facebook and other social media. According to my global stats there's alot of people reading my posts from around the world. Today on Facebook I posted a topic that I'm cooking a turkey and surprisingly a reply was posted by a FB friend from the UK. Here's what he said:
*Alan Morgan - I hope you registered your turkey with the office and it's inoculations are up to date? Don't wanna risk an N5 ! *

LOL @ Alan. I thought his comment was funny..goes to show Urban Native Homes Inc. and it's policies are a joke throughout the world.

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

Koo Gaa Da Win Manitou

I hope one day we can truly say there is a haven where older natives who experienced homelessness can find a place to call home and have the resources available for the best quality of life in their golden years. Koo Ga Da Win Manitou Housing Complex has a long journey in order to reach that goal. Perhaps more funding is needed or better trained/experienced outreach workers who can relate to tenants concerns and health issues. Programs that would interest all tenants as a whole would be nice. Most important we tenants must try to get along with their neighbours. (as the good book says "Love thy neighbour") I've been here less then a year and I've observed alot, we have a diversity of tenants living in the building from different reservations and walks of life. Some have problems with alcohol, prescription drug addictions, physical disabilities and slight mental disabilities. The one thing we all have in common is our health concerns, from chronic back pain to deadly...

The End Is Here

Urban Native Homes Inc. will no longer exist.   Today and tomorrow Ciy of Hamilton/Ontario Aboriginal Housing Human Resources Dept. are interviewing UNH staff and other applicants in the community room.   Who will be rehired and who will be fired!   I just hope they choose wisely. Tonight I heard Christine Lenze, her mother Ingrid Nosel and the rest of their family and friends has left UNH. This evening before I left for the gym I ran into receptionist Melissa Wissner in the hallway.   She was waiting for her job interview and had a message for me from former UNH caseworker Crystal Mackenzie.  Crystal wishes me good luck and it was a pleasure working with me.  I was surprised by the message and I wish her the best too. :) My blog site has accomplished what I started out to do some years ago by publicly outing the mismanagement of Urban Native Homes Inc.  It's been a long arduous journey. I would like to thank anonymous and the others for thei...
