KMHC and COVID-19

Hello readers! Here's the latest. Last month I and a few KMHC tenants received the 2nd Pfizer vaccine shot but we're not out of the woods yet. The doctor said we may need a booster shot sometime in the future. I still maintain social distancing and wear a mask. I'm told another fuck up from OAHS staff by not informing KMHC tenants COVID-19 vaccine shots were available, some had to find out through other sources.

Prior to my second shot on a Friday I stopped by KMHC to pick up a gift from one of the ladies, as I walked away from the building I was flagged over by another KMHC tenant from the courtyard. I was invited to sit with a group of tenants, while social distancing we had a nice conversation.  I didn't stay long I had another appointment.  Looking around the KMHC building from the courtyard I didn't see any improvements and no staff in attendance Elizabeth Blake do you still vape? ;)

I'm told there's a security guard that stops by to patrol the building at various times then departs. Unsure his purpose I mean these are Native seniors what could they possibly be doing that's illegal unless you're Aunt Opie.

I'm so glad I'm no longer a KMHC resident and living downtown. Confirmed by news media, the police station next door, the nursing home across the street and Rebecca Towers a tall residential building down the street from KMHC have COVID-19 outbreaks.  Shocking I know.

I would like you readers to look at my previous blog post. In the comment section anonymous posted information regarding Non Profit Native housing organizations. The facts are there just look back when Urban Natives Homes Inc operated KMHC and other housing properties in Hamilton. Corruption, mismanagement, staff and tenants treated badly was abundant, is OAHS immune I highly doubt it.  I know who anonymous is we've communicated on many levels.

More insights regarding OAHS will be posted soon.  In the meantime get vaccinated, practice social distancing and wear a mask.

Tk.

Yes, you'd think in a senior building we wouldn't need a security guard. BUT alot of apt buildings do! So it's really not that unusual. HOWEVER, here in this seniors building there's been alotta alcohol, drugs n partying, which have brought waaaay too many questionable people around! SO, most of us have felt safer with a security guard dropping by. I saw him last nite as I did laundry. atleast now your can sleep better knowing your good friends are Protected better.

Lived here for over 11 yrs. I really did love this place. Now it is my home till I move in a month. Although a lot of cameras were added it would seem that is silly. No one is in the office to see who is doing damage to or around the building. Seems like a lot of money spent on "looks". It is a shame that this building is going downhill
The courtyard looks junky with plant boxes falling apart. Took almost 3 weeks till someone came and cleaned up the front where branches were deliberately broke off.north drive way needs a good sweep to keep down the dust. The enclosure for garbage needs to be redone it is looking poorly. Bushes need to be trimmed etc. I took pictures of the tree that was broken , sent to mgmt. No response. I gave up .

Wow! Times have changed since I lived there, I never felt fearful or danger from other tenants or their guests. Tenants would usually go about their daily lives in peace and quiet. There was a assigned security tenant Brenda that kept an eye on the building yet when OAHS took over they released her from the position. Security guard service are hired for troubled residential buildings in Hamilton this doesn't look good for KMHC. OAHS has to take responsibility for not properly screening new tenants and to encourage tenants who have addictions to seek counseling. The complex where I live there are no security guards patrolling but we do have security tenants. I applied for security tenant position so when a vacancy comes available I hope to be hired.

Wigwamin Terrace

After many years I received a call for Toronto Native Housing offering a vacancy so I decided to explore my options by attending a viewing of what's available. But first I did a phone interview with acting project manager Paul Feitelberg. He said my personal and financial information checks out fine then we talked about the negative reference I got from Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services. I was asked for my side of the story and I also invited Paul to read this blog site to find out more who I am.  A few days later I called Paul for an update, I was complimented on my blog posts and he could see the love and compassion I have for the Native people on this blog site.  Due to the Hamilton cyber attack it was difficult for Paul get a reference from my current housing provider so with my assistance I helped him get in contact with their office. I received an excellent tenant reference from my housing provider. When I asked about OAHS he said he's going to ignore their negative re...

The Ladies of KMHC

I & friend Teresa Last week I attended a program host by NWC Hamilton, it was there I met up with six female tenants of KMHC.   It was nice to see the ladies again I was greeted with hugs and smiles.   The program was Holistic teachings by Jane Burning she spoke about the Creator and positive thinking.   I enjoyed the presentation though it was a wee bit long.   During lunch break I had the chance to chat with the KMHC tenants to find out how’s life going at KMHC.   Things haven’t improved most tenants don’t like each other and there’s a lot of negative energy in the building.   I offered a sympathetic ear and didn’t judge as they shared their stories. The big problem with KMHC is tenant Aunt Opie and I’m glad she didn’t attend the NWC program.   You may recall I spoke of her in past blogs, aunt Opie’s negativity spreads throughout KMHC.   She brags about sending false complaint e-mails about tenants and staff to Justin the head direc...

Koo Gaa Da Win Manitou

I hope one day we can truly say there is a haven where older natives who experienced homelessness can find a place to call home and have the resources available for the best quality of life in their golden years. Koo Ga Da Win Manitou Housing Complex has a long journey in order to reach that goal. Perhaps more funding is needed or better trained/experienced outreach workers who can relate to tenants concerns and health issues. Programs that would interest all tenants as a whole would be nice. Most important we tenants must try to get along with their neighbours. (as the good book says "Love thy neighbour") I've been here less then a year and I've observed alot, we have a diversity of tenants living in the building from different reservations and walks of life. Some have problems with alcohol, prescription drug addictions, physical disabilities and slight mental disabilities. The one thing we all have in common is our health concerns, from chronic back pain to deadly...
