Post-Holiday Syndrome


To start off the New Year this will be a short blog.  

Hello readers I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday season.  The January blues have arrived and KMHC is not immune, I’ve notice tenants arguing among themselves at the building entrance, backstabbing and malicious gossip are abundant.  This behavior could be triggered by depression, anxiety or drug and alcohol use.  Through all this I avoid the drama by not getting involved and staying away from the cranky and mean tenants. 

Last week in the hallway the H.O.W. was called out by a female tenant for not being supportive and no empathy for Native elders.  I found it amusing listening to the commotion yet I have to agree with the tenant.  I think the OAHS transition has an effect not only to the UNH staff but tenants as well.  I have no idea why nor do I care but another tenant meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at the Hamilton Community legal Services office.  What’s the topic about UNH or OAHS!  Needless to say I will not be attending, I know one thing in the coming months OAHS will have their hands full dealing with the nefarious tenant aunt Opie.

Once Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) has completed the transition I plan to create a new Hamilton native housing blog site.  This one now will remain online for those who wish to go back in time and review what it was like.  In the meantime I can’t wait for the transition to start just imagine new staff, maintenance and unit upgrades.  Yep I’m delighted.

Update - I was informed the tenant meeting scheduled at the legal clinic has been cancelled until further notice. Last week after the commotion in the hallway the H.O.W called the police on the native elderly woman. In conclusion the H.O.W and the tenant was told not to communicate with each other. Makes me wonder why is the H.O.W still working here.
Today is when the first phase of the transition begins.

Its come to the conclusion that there are too many rumours spreading around, this happens when there a transition like this, going on it needs to be cleared up, and to the Staff of UNH needs to stop with these comments please read this one there was a typo in the other comment I sent

It's the same at KMHC, office clerk Teresa Workman has been steering the ship all by herself and doing the best she can. H.O.W Lynda Jones has missed 4 days of work and I notice the UNH phone directory has changed.

We are going to write a letter and with signatures and send it to City Hall in regards to what has been going on in this complex, we are not waiting til April with the potential of an extension

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP

The Ladies of KMHC

I & friend Teresa Last week I attended a program host by NWC Hamilton, it was there I met up with six female tenants of KMHC.   It was nice to see the ladies again I was greeted with hugs and smiles.   The program was Holistic teachings by Jane Burning she spoke about the Creator and positive thinking.   I enjoyed the presentation though it was a wee bit long.   During lunch break I had the chance to chat with the KMHC tenants to find out how’s life going at KMHC.   Things haven’t improved most tenants don’t like each other and there’s a lot of negative energy in the building.   I offered a sympathetic ear and didn’t judge as they shared their stories. The big problem with KMHC is tenant Aunt Opie and I’m glad she didn’t attend the NWC program.   You may recall I spoke of her in past blogs, aunt Opie’s negativity spreads throughout KMHC.   She brags about sending false complaint e-mails about tenants and staff to Justin the head direc...
