The Spec Article

KMHC Building Finally our local newspaper The Hamilton Spectator published an article on the planned transfer to a new landlord.   I am on cloud nine just thinking about the future.   Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services are experienced, well equipped to manage and be a good Hamilton indigenous housing provider. :) The article doesn’t dish the dirt on the many current management flaws and fuck ups and that’s fine.   Please help yourself I have it all written in my previous blog posts.  ;) Check out the link below.  https://tinyurl.com/y8n3vtsd   tk

Christmas at KMHC

Post Christmas Last week UNH arranged for the tenants a bus field trip to Niagara Falls Ontario to see the light show. The plan was to leave at 4pm but there was a delay.   A tenant in a wheelchair had difficulty getting from the Men’s Residence on Kenilworth to KMHC and was late.   By the time the bus embarked around 5 pm it was almost dark, I didn’t go because I had other plans.   The next day the ladies said I should have went, the bus was not full to capacity and the obnoxious male tenant was warned to behave himself.    I was told the only drawback the tenants didn’t get the chance to get off the bus and admire the view.   I suppose the trip would have been nice but I’ve been to Niagara Falls many times in the past.   Plus I wouldn’t have liked the idea of not being able to get off the bus to get some fresh air and stretch my legs.   The bus tour lasted about 3 hours.   Gosh!   Remember Gilligan’s Island!   They went f...

Best Christmas Present 2017

My living room window. Yesterday afternoon KMHC had their general meeting.   I entered the community room and slowly the other tenants came in.   A native elder guest started the meeting with a prayer then an introduction from Ontario Aboriginal Housing acting director Justin Marchand and his colleagues.   I sat beside Hamilton City Hall social housing manager Mr. Adam Sweedland.   I introduced myself as a tenant and author of the Hamilton Native Housing blogsite.   Unfortunately UNH board member Carol Hill couldn’t attend because she locked herself out of her home.   What a great way to start a serious meeting with a little humor. :D I found out Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services aka OAHS is based in the northern city of Sault Ste. Marie and have other offices and 2,000 homes across the province of Ontario.   Their credentials are impressive they have been around for many years.   OAHS objective is to assist UNH’s with maintenanc...

New Management?

Here is a flyer that was posted on the KMHC bulletin board a few days ago.  I'll be posting my review after Tuesdays general meeting. tk

Switch To Private Viewing

Last week UNH staff member Teresa Workman’s family came to the office with gifts and to wish and sing Happy Birthday to her.   I thought what a nice gesture, it’s obvious to me Teresa has a loving, caring family.   I’m sure the tenants who saw and heard the celebration felt happy for Teresa.   I know I did. :) On 11/24/17 I received a N5 eviction Notice from Urban Native Homes.   There was a complaint from tenant Joan Frame that I’m in violation of her human rights and interfering with her enjoyment of her unit by posting comments on my blog site.   After consulting with paralegal counsel I was advised to edit or remove the few offending comments, after her explanation on the law and thinking about it I reluctantly made the changes. To avoid eviction the landlord also wrote a clause in the N5 notice that I will not agree with.   Urban Native Homes Inc. wants to control and sensor what I write about tenants in the future on all social media outlets. ...
