FOB |
A few years ago UNH’s installed electronic door locks on all
levels of the KMHC building. There was
grumbling from tenants about the inconvenience but soon learn to adapt. Before entry the tenant must have a FOB device
to unlock and open the front door. *Similar to the image
above* Yeah it’s a pain in the arse when a tenant is
carrying groceries and other items. The
one thing I like about the FOB lock system is when the building fire alarm
is triggered all FOB locked doors electronically swing open.
Soon after the FOB lock systems were installed I notice
something peculiar. During office hours
the basement door was jarred open by the UNH’s staff and I figured out why. UNH staff was too lazy to get up off their
seat and physically open the door for their visitors. There is a security camera monitor at the
reception desk and a buzzer that opens the main door but Jeezus Come on ladies! Tenant elders are instructed to physically open the
main door for their guests/visitors and escort them to their unit so this rule
should apply to UNH staff as well.
Due to a false sense of security for the first time in KMHC
history a male intruder entered the basement level of KMHC during the day. Captured on surveillance camera wandering the hallway then entered a unit and stole
some cash from a tenant's home. Filing a
police report might nab the thief but then he may get away with it.
So who’s at fault for the intruder entering KMHC and stealing
from a unit?
1.
UNH staff by not monitoring the entrance & keeping the basement door open during
office hours.
2.
The female tenant who ignored the intruder as she was leaving the front entrance.
3.
The tenant for not locking his unit.
I would say it’s a combination of all three. Gone are the days when you could keep your front
door unlocked and nobody would ransack your home.
I do feel bad for my fellow tenant who was violated and I hope the police
find the thief. My advice
to tenants lock your unit even if you’re going to sit in the courtyard, visit the
community room or stop at the laundry room and be aware of your surroundings.

Maintenance Dept - I have to admit KMHC building maintenance
has improved. They hired a couple of guys to clear the rooftop. The trees located at the KMHC
front entrance are trimmed, the lawn was mowed, the weeds are whacked plus a
fast response to my maintenance work order request was exceptional. Thanks to Phil and Melissa. :)
I’m expecting my annual rent review package anytime
soon from HOW Lynda Jones. That’s when the fun begins. ;)
Enjoy your summer.
