Harassing Visitors

The KMHC tenant intercom system is different and outdated from other residential complexes.  Tenants who live here have to physically open the front door to allow their guest entry.  At first it was an inconvenience but now I’m used to it.  Then something out of the ordinary happened earlier this week and I had to wait a few days to cool off before I wrote this.
On Monday just before noon a friend from out of town came by for a visit he’s a prominent company executive and investor and I’ve known him for many years.  While waiting for me to open the front door my guest was accosted by tenant Dean King (no relation to me).  In a snarky tone Dean asked who he’s waiting for and asked my friend’s identity.  It’s none of Dean’s business why my guest is at KMHC.  A few minutes later my friend told me what happened and I was livid.  Dean assumed he’s a reporter for the Hamilton Spectator, I didn’t witness this so I asked my friend could he point him out and sure enough it was Dean King.  Nowhere in the lease or the UNH’s handbook does it say visitors/guests must be interrogated by other tenants at the KMHC building entrance door.
In the past I’ve heard Dean King make sexist comments to women and racist jokes about other minorities which is why I stopped hanging out with the creep.  Dean has the mentality of an adolescent and a few times I’ve made allowances due to his disability, but he’s crossed the line again with his bullying antics.  Dean is the stereotypical Indian always looking for handouts from the Govt. and local agencies and filled with a sense of entitlement.  He has no social skills and a gambling addiction yet he’s quick to judge other tenants at the KMHC building.  UNH’s won’t get involved in these matters so I plan to have a few strong words with him outside KMHC in regard to harassing my guest/visitor.
The next day I ran into him at a parking lot next to a retail store at King & Mary Streets and true to my word I confronted him.  “DON’T YOU EVER AGAIN HARASS MY VISITORS WHEN THEY COME TO THE BUILDING, IT’S NONE OF YOUR GODDAM BUSINESS WHO THEY ARE!”  Instead of an apology Dean justified his actions by yelling obscenities and starts walking quickly to the bus stop.  Dean King reads my blog at the library so let this be a warning to him.  If there is a “next time” it will get ugly.
Last night I sent my friend a message on Skype and gave him the update, he laughed and gave me the thumbs up.  Don’t get me wrong I like and respect the majority of Native Elders living @ KMHC but like most communities there’s always an asshole in every crowd.
December is here let the Christmas Holiday season begin by attending the Annual Community Christmas dinner hosted by HRIC.  Tonight I’ll be there with Christmas bells on. :)

Well , the front door situation has always been a it is a safety issue . So that we can let our visitors in. This does not always work and let's be honest , people will let anyone in they seem to know. Yes, Dean can be a problem and loves to put his 5 cents in ...lol He has no boundaries. On a personal note, he has never said anything to me because I just tell him, knock it off and get the f**k away from me . That usually keeps him in tow. Sorry this happened to your friend.
Complain to the Board about the issue, what is wrong with this place

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

The Ladies of KMHC

I & friend Teresa Last week I attended a program host by NWC Hamilton, it was there I met up with six female tenants of KMHC.   It was nice to see the ladies again I was greeted with hugs and smiles.   The program was Holistic teachings by Jane Burning she spoke about the Creator and positive thinking.   I enjoyed the presentation though it was a wee bit long.   During lunch break I had the chance to chat with the KMHC tenants to find out how’s life going at KMHC.   Things haven’t improved most tenants don’t like each other and there’s a lot of negative energy in the building.   I offered a sympathetic ear and didn’t judge as they shared their stories. The big problem with KMHC is tenant Aunt Opie and I’m glad she didn’t attend the NWC program.   You may recall I spoke of her in past blogs, aunt Opie’s negativity spreads throughout KMHC.   She brags about sending false complaint e-mails about tenants and staff to Justin the head direc...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP
