Tenants & bickering

On Saturday afternoon I saw a rarity in the building...I was entering my building floor and I walked into a cat fight.
Marion (a tenant) had her family in the community room for a get together.  When another tenant (Bonnie) on her way to do her laundry asked a guest if there was a presentation going on, the guest was rude in her response. So here we go....that lead to a shouting match, then eventually Marion got into it with Bonnie uttering denial and threats and calling on Jan. What brings the question what would Jan do?
Anyway I calmed down Bonnie and told her to ignore it and move on.

Such fun living in the land of Koo Gaa Da Win.

Get your facts right before you speak. Yes, my niece was rude but your refused to mention so was the tenant. We were having a wake for my brother had just died. The tenant in question was interrupting my niece and her son while they were having a personal discussion, and the tenant kept asking 'what's going on down in the community room' what's going on.... She kept it up until my nephew told his mom that that lady over to the side was trying to get her attention. She was near tears and she did not want to be bothered so she said a simple
WHAT! This angered the tenant but she did not know why my niece was so stressed. The tenant then went up and got a blanket and came down "to do her laundry" but it was more to see what was going on.
My niece had come back earlier, about ten minutes maybe. She was crying and told me one of the tenants had upset her and spoke rudely to her. Then my nieces mother came out into the hall way to talk to me and it caused more
stress to the matter. As the mother and I were talking that is when the tenant came down 'to do her wash'
I was the one who confronted her and then I called my niece out of the meeting room. Things were said and the things got heated. I was already stressed from losing my brother and so was the rest of my family.
The male janitor was there and he came down stairs and settled the matter for the time being. the female janitor was not even in the building as it was the weekend.
The following day I went to the office and i made an official complaint. Participants and staff met to solve to problem and it was solved so there is no need to bring up old news which is not even news just a misunderstanding between two people who set it right and does not need anyone else's interpretation. Especially the wrong interpretation. Please make sure your facts are straight before repeating them

Hi Marion, now I don’t know what medication you’re on but your memory is off. It was not a wake for your brother, it was a party I remember you were all dressed up and laughing and carrying on and you invited me.
Anyway I appreciate your side of the story I write only what I saw in the hallway and by the way this topic was posted way back in Feb. 2011 since then you moved out. You are no longer a KM tenant. So who cares!

Marion - I received your last comment, it's not going to published. What's the point in bitching about a minor incident that happened almost a year ago and to be honest you handled the situation terribly. Like I said you moved out 6 months ago focus on where you live now.

Happy Holidays. :)

Poor Working Environment

My unit is located near the KMHC office, along with a friendly wave or hello I see the junior staff going about their business in a cheerful manner with the exception of one employee.   You would think KMHC has a pleasant working environment but that is not the case.   March 2016 is when Urban Native Homes head office was forced to move from their former spacious location to the cramp basement level of KMHC.   There were approx. 8-10 staff members at the time.   Then the Urban Native Homes financial scandal broke out and soon after the current UNH acting director’s illicit past became public knowledge, everyone was worried will they have a job.  Fearful meetings going on in the community room, the rumor mill was in full rotation while I just stood back and observed the panic.   Check your search engine it states this building location is Urban Native Homes head office yet that is not correct.  There is no real head office, the organization has s...

The Passing of Dean King

There's not many original KMHC tenants left that I know, last week I got word tenant Dean King passed away, we were not related and I remember when he moved in the building we got along well, we hung out often and he shared stories about his life and family. Eventually I notice he wasn't the sharpest pencil in the drawer and I started drifting away thus ended our friendship. Dean didn't have the usual addictions most male aboriginals endure he didn't drink or do drugs the problem was his mental state which I believe began after an auto accident years before.  After I moved out of KMHC I'd often see him standing in line at the food bank in Gore Park in downtown Hamilton or hanging out with street friend Galina in Jackson Square food court. He didn't have many friends and other KMHC tenants just tolerated and accepted his strange behavior. He'd walk the streets looking disheveled and lost.  When I received the news Dean died I didn't feel sad I felt surpri...

Sandy Holland

On February 27th 2025 I heard the passing of tenant Elder Sandy Holland. I knew she was in bad health and said to her friend she's ready to go.  I met her years ago when she moved to KMHC she seem a bit daffy yet in a nice way, never spoke mean about others but had strong opinions about UNH staff. We would meet at UNH dinner functions and meetings and always offered me hug. She never got personal sharing her life stories with me which I can respect. RIP
